Kupwara, Mar 1: The body of a man, Abdul Rashid Dar, who had gone missing from the army’s custody in December last year in the Kunan Poshpora area of Kupwara was recovered on Wednesday and handed over to his family.
“After recovering the body from Zurhama forest area, in the morning, the family was called by the police for the identification. We identified the body at the hospital and later it was handed over to us by the police,” the deceased’s one of the relatives said. “We want justice and plead with the police to bring his killers to justice,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Kupwara police in a statement said that in continuation to missing of Abdul Rashid Dar of Kunan area of Kupwara on December 16, 2022, Wednesday early in the morning a body was recovered from Zurhama -PK Galli forests.
The police said that the body was brought to SDH Kupwara where it was identified by the relatives of missing person. “After completing all medico-legal formalities including post mortem by a team of doctors, the dead body was handed over to the family members for burial,” it said.
“Cognisance of the matter has been taken for further investigations,” the police said, adding that further details will be shared.
On 22 December, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kupwara Yougal Manhas told reporters that he was detained by the army for questioning in connection with a militancy case. On 15 December, he escaped from the custody of the forces, police had said. “On his revelation about the hideout, he gave a slip to the forces. We are investigating which circumstances he managed to flee. We are in touch with his family also,” he said. (KNO)
