Bandipora, Mar 4: Pre-settling tank (PST) of multi-crore source promotion scheme at Bilal Colony in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district has been left unattended by the authorities since 2014, locals complained on Tuesday.
Although the source promotion scheme was constructed at a cost of around Rs 6 crore in the year 2014 and was made functional in 2018, when water was stored in it for source promotion of Bandipora town, it’s portion had collapsed in the same year following which it was left unattended by the administration.
The residents alleged that drug addicts and other antisocial elements are misusing the abandoned structure, which could harm the growth of young children. “Although sometimes children are playing cricket inside it,” one of the locals said, adding that it can be fatal for them to get into it.
A local said that, “Before it could be used, it started to deteriorate. What about the money that went into making it?” He said that the concerned authorities and district administration should now take a firm decision on this unattended structure.
Meanwhile, the locals have appealed to the deputy commissioner Bandipora and concerned departments to personally look into the matter.
An official said that he will look into the matter. “I will obtain information from the concerned JE and determine what the problem with the PST is,” he said. (KNO)
