Baramulla, Mar 8: Jal Shakti, the erstwhile Public Health Engineering (PHE) department’s guest house at Kreeri area of north Kashmir is in ruin as the concerned authorities have failed to complete the project.
The government owned building is in shambles and has turned into a safe haven for drug addicts, besides illegally occupied by some vested interests.
Locals said that the building was under construction for the last 11 years and the structure is complete now. But the building has been left abandoned by the concerned authorities with the reasons best known to them.
Instead of wasting the public money on such projects, the administration should focus on providing safe drinking water to people, especially Kreeri people who have been forced to drink the filthy water supply, locals added.
Nissar Ahmed Ganaie, a local, said that the structure is in complete shambles with broken windows and doors which apparently look like a ghost house. In the premises, one can find empty strips of banned drugs used by the addicts, he said.
“The building was left midway after spending lakhs of rupees and is currently lying in shambles due to the sheer negligence of the authorities,” Nissar said.
Locals urged the lieutenant governor and district administration to intervene in the matter and investigate why public money has gone waste.
