Srinagar, Apr 26: Locals of Hyderia Colony, Khumani Chowk in the Bemina area of Srinagar have expressed strong resentment against the district administration, especially the R&B Department and SMC, for the dilapidated condition of a road stretch at Bemina Khumani Chowk to Hyderia Colony Sector 10.
Aggrieved residents said that the road is dotted with huge potholes and has not been repaired for long. They alleged that the Roads & Buildings (R&B) department and Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) are least bothered about their sufferings.
“It is an important link road and the whole area has been overlooked by the consecutive governments and nobody seems to be taking our issues seriously,” they said.
They also alleged that every year lakhs of rupees are released for construction and maintenance of the roads but the road stretch from Bemina Khumani Chowk to Hyderia Colony Sector 10 has been always ignored by the authorities concerned.
“We apprised the R&B Department as well as SMC a number of times regarding our genuine demands but all in vain as the concerned department failed to repair the road,” Sajid Abbasi, a local said, adding, “The road stretch is giving nightmarish experience to us and transporters, especially during the rainy season, as it has been totally tattered.”
Just a little rain is causing the water logging in the area, another resident Aijaz Hussain Mugloo said. “The dilapidated condition of the road itself speaks of the incompetence of the authorities.”
It is a flood-like situation in Sector 10 of Hyderia colony as the accumulated water is directly entering into their houses, Mugloo said, adding, “Our lawns turned into ponds. There is no proper drainage system in the area while the concerned department has miserably failed to take any step in this regard.”
The residents have appealed to the higher authorities to seriously look into the matter and take steps to repair the road and drainage system in the area.
