Parenting styles: How respect, discipline shape children’s future

The world is going to celebrate Mother’s Day on May 14 to appreciate the role being played by mothers across the globe. However, some situations and circumstances witnessed by these mothers, especially in Jammu & Kashmir by one way or the other, need to be put to an immediate end to give them the proper respect and values they deserve. In Jammu & Kashmir, the women in large number are facing domestic violence and other issues, thus simultaneously are being deprived of their rights. Shockingly, most of those facing domestic violence are mothers, but despite facing challenges, they never stop caring and loving their beloved children. Every religion is giving the highest place to the mothers, but one fails to understand why these mothers don’t get respect and values on the ground, especially from their in-laws. There are couple of incident that were reported in J&K, in which the women, who were also mothers, faced torture and even were killed brutally, which indicates that the society is not giving the respect to the womenfolk within the society. Therefore, celebrating the day would not serve the cause until and unless the woman is not given the proper respect, which she deserves. In such a situation, the first change should be witnessed in schools where the children should be taught about the values of women within the society, which would help in changing the ground situation where the womenfolk is facing difficult situation and also bring a respite to the mothers as it would help them in getting the rightful space and the respect they deserve.
