Karnah, May 19: After three back-to-back accidents leading to the death of three individuals, the authorities in the north Kashmir Karnah subdivision have written to the PMGSY department to conduct a technical survey of the road.
Karnah sector in the northern belt of Kashmir in the Kupwara district is connected with the rest of the valley with lone motorable connectivity. The road from Kupwara to Karnah has always been known for fatal accidents over the years.
In a communique, the Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Karnah has written to Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) for a technical survey on Nachiyan road mainly at the blind curves leading to accidents in the area.
“As your good self is aware of the fact that three accidents happened on Nachiyan- Hajinar- Baghbella PMGSY road stretch at Nachiyan. The said stretch of the road, particularly the blind curves (Nachiyan Zub) have become accident prone,” the official communique of SDM to PMGSY department read.
It read that “Therefore as a precautionary measure, and to avoid further accidents. It is requested that a technical survey on the said road stretch may kindly be conducted as soon as possible. Accordingly, necessary steps may kindly be taken (Including installation of crash barriers, etc) on an urgent basis.”
The SDM in the official communique to PMGSY stated the matter as” Top Priority”.
Notably, in the ensuing month, a total of three accidents took place on the aforementioned road leading to the death of three individuals including two brothers as well.
In May 08, two individuals were injured of which one succumbed to injuries.
On May 15, two individuals, both siblings were injured of which one died on the way to Kupwara for treatment, while his brother succumbed to his injuries today in Srinagar hospital.
Again on May 17, two more individuals including a newlywed were injured in the accident at the aforementioned road stretch.
The stretch has become prone to accidents given the blind curves. The local population has urged the LG administration to ensure safety measures at an earliest so that more precious lives are saved.
