Keep Kashmir connected

The stray dogs have unleashed terror in Srinagar as the people from across the district have been complaining of immense hardships being faced by them due to the increasing number of dogs in their areas. Similar is the situation in the city centre Lal Chowk, but just an hour before the arrival of foreign delegates, the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) swung into action and rounded up the dogs and transported these dogs to designated veterinary centers, where they will undergo sterilization procedures to prevent further breeding. The measure is undoubtedly a welcome step, but there are people who question the timeliness of the event. Despite complaining every then and now, the concerned authorities didn’t bother to look into the matter from the past some years. As far as the media report is concerned, only 75 dogs have been sterilized this year, which indicates that nothing much was done in this regard to control the population of strays. But, at a time when the major focus was towards welcoming the foreign delegates, the concerned officials started a drive in this regard, thus putting a question mark over the seriousness of the concerned officials with regard to addressing the grave issue. To show the seriousness with regard to the sterilization procedures, the concerned must not stop the process from now onwards and ensure that the process is completed at the shortest possible time so that the people here could heave a sigh of relief and their grievances in this regard will be addressed.
