Srinagar, May 31: The erratic weather has slowed down the pace of ongoing developmental works in the Valley, however, the CEO of Srinagar Smart City Limited (SSCL) stated that the projects cannot be delayed will be completed within set deadline while the other departments stated that the frequent rainfall has affected the renovation works including the macadamization of roads.
CEO, SSCL, Athar Aamir Khan said that there was no impact on the ongoing works as such, but the frequent rainfall is affecting the stone works particularly.
“The rainfall is usually hampering the work, but the weather would likely improve from June 2 as per the forecast and we should be able to complete the projects,” he said, adding that “we are adhering to deadlines and we will adhere to the deadlines.”
“The rainfall can affect the work for some days, but the weather conditions will not remain the same always. Whenever we get the window, the works are being resumed normally with a similar pace,” CEO SSCL said.
Chief Engineer, Roads and Building (R&B), Rafiq Ahmad said that the frequent wet spell has been affecting the macadamization work, but despite the frequent rainfall, the department has been able to macadamize 250 kms of roads in Srinagar ahead of the G-20 event.
“The macadamization of Airport road, Qamarwari road, Ali Jan road, Convent Road, Ganderbal to Wayil road, Boulevard Road and others have been completed despite the frequent wet spells,” he said, adding that 1600 kms of roads across Kashmir are to be macadamized this year and 300 kms have been completed so far.
“The pace of the black topping work is getting hampered, but the department is ready. The macadamization of roads during good weather conditions help to ensure good finish of the roads. There are no limitations, but the macadamization during pleasant weather conditions helps to ensure better finish of the roads,”the Chief Engineer said.
Chief Engineer, Kashmir Power Distribution Limited (KPDCL), Javed Yousuf Dar told KNO that the renovation works like repairing of electric wires, replacing of electric poles and other works are being postponed due to the frequent wet spell.
“Although the major works like installation of meters and other related things are being carried out despite the inclement weather, the repair works are being postponed due to inclement weather,” he said.
Dar further said that the shutdowns for repairing works are also being postponed in wake of the prevalent weather conditions.
