Srinagar, Jun 1: Member of Parliament, animal rights activist, and environmentalist Maneka Gandhi on Thursday said that the man-animal conflict will be put to an immediate end and the people will witness the results within a year.
The Kashmir Animal Welfare Foundation hosted a grand celebration titled “Let’s Co-Exist” here in the city of Srinagar. The event aimed to promote harmonious coexistence between humans and animals and which witnessed the presence of the esteemed Member of Parliament, Maneka Gandhi.
Speaking to the media here in Srinagar, Maneka Gandhi, expressed her belief that the man-animal conflict would soon come to an end.
“If proper sterilizations are carried out in the city, the conflict between humans and dogs will be eliminated within a year. The sterilizations are yet to commence, and today I chaired a meeting regarding this matter. We eagerly anticipate witnessing the results, and we are confident that within a year, this conflict will be resolved.”
Prior to this, a sterilization center was established in Jammu, and currently, there have been no complaints reported from the area. “I am delighted to announce that Professor Wasant Darr, a Kashmiri, who thrived and succeeded in the US, has generously donated an animal ambulance for conducting dog sterilizations in Kashmir. This is the first animal ambulance in the state, and we are pleased to have it in Srinagar,” she added.
“I visited Tangpora in Srinagar and inspected the established sterilization center, which is in excellent condition. Another sterilization center is being constructed, which is a commendable step. With the completion of both centers, the sterilizations will be carried out more efficiently,” she said.
Regarding waste management, she emphasized that it is the responsibility of citizens to refrain from throwing waste on the streets and manage their garbage in a responsible manner.
“People tend to view pets as toys, labeling them as ‘Jungli’ and ‘Awara,’ which is highly disheartening in my opinion,” she added.
