Srinagar, Jun 12: The road from Hawal to Bota Kadal in Srinagar’s Old City is in shambles, causing inconvenience to commuters. The drainage of these areas gets choked, resulting in water logging of the roads.
The locals of Bagi Ali Mardan Khan, Bota Kadal told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the road stretch is dotted with huge potholes and the drainage passing through the roadside has been choked. They criticized the authorities saying they are “least bothered” about people’s sufferings.
“The authorities need to take immediate action to fix this road. It is a nightmare for us,” said a local resident.
Abdul Rashid Bhat, a shopkeeper from the area, said the road condition is not just inconvenient but also dangerous and poses a serious risk to both motorists and pedestrians. It also gives a foul smell as the drainage water has accumulated on the road, he said.
“The water logging on this road has become a breeding ground for mosquitoes and other pests. It is a health hazard,” Waseem Hussain Bhat, another local resident said.
Meanwhile, the former chairman of Public Health & Sanitation SMC, Tanveer Hussain Pathan, said, “The road in our area is a reflection of the neglect faced by our region. I personally visited the authorities and even brought them here many times, but nothing happened. I again request the concerned authorities to kindly look into the road and drainage issue at the earliest.”
