Sopore, Jun 12: Unscheduled power cuts in Sopore and its adjacent areas of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district are giving a tough time to the people who are up in arms against the administration.
The people said their lives and businesses have been severely affected due to pesky power cuts which have made their life “hell”.
“Since Jammu and Kashmir has witnessed a 25 percent sudden power cut, the areas are witnessing the power cuts. It seems the cut is for Sopore in particular, as we hardly get any power supply in the daytime,” the residents said.
They said the frequent power cuts have become a daily affair. To demand 24×7 electricity is a dream; we just demand regular and scheduled power supply, said Mohammad Ayub, a resident of Nowpora.
“Every year, the PDD comes up with an excuse of less generation and more demand. Despite the power tariff being raised so many times in the past few years, the department has nothing to offer to its consumers,” the residents said.
The complaints poured in from various areas and localities of Sopore and Baramulla including Arampora, Krankshivan Colony, New Colony, Zaingeer, and Nowpora.
The locals of these areas said that they have been facing regular power cuts for the past week despite being metered. “We are witnessing just 7 to 8 hours of power supply,” said a local woman.
“In today’s era, there should be an uninterrupted power supply. If the power department wants to curtail, there should be a proper schedule and it should be minimal so that people don’t suffer,” said a local from Krankshivan Colony.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Sopore, S A Raina said supplies are currently less and the issue will be resolved soon.
