Qazigund, Jun 12: Ahead of Amarnaath yatra, more than 4,000 mobile toilets are being installed for the Amarnath Yatra in Jammu and Kashmir.
Commissioner Secretary, Rural Development Department (RDD) and Panchayati Raj, Mandeep Kaur said more than 4000 toilet units are being installed at various places leading to the cave shrine located at Pahalgam in Anantnag.
“As per the requirement details given by the Shrine Board, over 4,000 toilet units were tendered out and are being installed,” she said.
Kaur said that the process of hiring of sanitation workers have been already tendered out and they are being arranged.
She said that there was no role of RDD with regard to Yatra till last year. But last year, responsibility of sanitation was given to RDD and it was very successful. Again, this year all arrangements are being made for proper sanitation.
“For zero landfill, segregation and awareness all arrangements are being done,” she said.
Kaur said sanitation arrangements are put in place well in advance for the smooth conduct of yatra.
“Rural areas initiatives are taken to ensure a clean and waste-free environment for the yatries. Robust waste management system is being implemented along with clean sanitation facilities and awareness campaigns promoting cleanliness and responsible waste disposal,” she added.
The Amarnaath Yatra is scheduled to begin on July 1 and end on August 31 this year.
