Srinagar, Jun 14: The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Kashmir Valley continues to be headless as Lt. General, Dr. Anup Banerji, a retired top medico from Army, didn’t join after being appointed as its first executive director by the Government of India.
In June 2022, the Government of India appointed Banerji, who had served as director general, Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS) before attaining superannuation, as first executive director of the AIIMS, Awantipora.
However, Banerji didn’t join as its executive director AIIMS, Awantipora and the coveted position was still lying vacant, sources said.
With the position lying vacant, the Government of India started the selection process afresh for appointment of executive director AIIMS in February this year.
The Government of India issued an advertisement notice on February 28, 2023 for filling the post of executive director- who acts as chief executive officer of the Institute- in AIIMS Awantipora, AIIMS Raipur and AIIMS Nagpur.
As per procedure governing these appointments, the Government of India will now shortlist eligible candidates for these positions. “Based on information provided as part of the proforma, screening of applications will be carried out. Only the short- listed candidates will be called for interview,” reads official documents.
The interview will be conducted by the search- cum-selection committee comprising officials from different central ministers.
In November 2022, J&K LG Manoj Sinha had said that AIIMS Awantipora would be made functional next year. (KNO)
