Crime cases on rise?

There has been no let up in the social crimes across the Valley, especially in Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir as the frequent cases of molestation and stabbing are being reported almost every day now here, leading to the chaos within the society. While there has been a rise in the reporting of such cases, the time has called for an immediate measure to put an end to the happenings that are painting a grim picture of Kashmir—the land of sufi saints. It is unfortunate that the religious clerics and organizations are tightlipped in this regard, taking no action and step to end such happenings in the Valley. The social crimes are not only painting a grim picture of the Kashmir society, but have been shattering the dreams of many families. One fails to understand why there seems to be an abrupt rise in social crimes. Though the officials claim that only the reporting of these cases has increased, there is no rise in such criminal acts here. There is a need to understand and identify the reasons behind such cases, which needs to be looked into thoroughly and combat in the best possible way. Therefore, the society in general needs to raise the voice and the religious clerics and organizations should come forward to play their pivotal role at this juncture to put an end to the serious matter at an earliest. Moreover, the administration needs to come up with stringent action against the involved culprits so that the people wouldn’t dare to indulge in such activities in the future.
