NIFT Srinagar holds 3-day Craft Awareness Workshop for Artisans

Srinagar, Jun 18: National Institute of Fashion Technology, Srinagar under its Craft Cluster Initiative organized and 3 Day online workshop for the Artisans representing various crafts from Kashmir. The focus of this artisans’ awareness workshop was helping the artisans to set up their own small business and selling their own products to the wider customer base that is available on the internet and using social media platforms for the growth of their business.
Experts and industry professionals interacted with artisans over three days and taught various techniques where special modules in Social Media Marketing, Photography, Craft Storytelling, Branding, Small Video Stories was part of the workshop. The importance of using such tools was emphasized for business growth and direct benefits to the artisans where they can connect to their potential buyers without middlemen.
The workshop was attended by the artisans representing various handicrafts & handlooms like Hand Knotted Kashmir Carpet, Copper Ware, Sozni, Pashmeena, Namda Making, Tilla work, Paper Mashe’, Kani Shawl etc. A large no. of design students also took part in the workshop and highly benefited from it.
During the workshop apart from regular modules the Director NIFT Srinagar Dr Javaid A Wani also spoke to the artisans and offered the support of the institute to them and shared various initiatives NIFT will be taking in future. Besides the faculty of NIFT Srinagar also shared their valuable inputs and interacted with the artisans.
The artisans also came forward with their inputs and apricated the NIFT Srinagar for holding the workshop and wanted to have more such sessions and workshops.
CIC Srinagar while thanking the artisans for their active participation informed about other related initiatives that will be taken in near future by NIFT. The workshop concluded with a long conversation among the artisans and the faculty of NIFT on further engagement and mutual association.
