Srinagar, Jun 24: The casual labourers and daily wagers held a protest on Saturday, urging the Lieutenant Governor-led administration to address their long-pending demands.
Talking to the media persons here in the Press Enclave, the protesters said, “We have always assisted and served the people of Jammu and Kashmir. During challenging times like the COVID-19 pandemic and the 2014 flood, we supplied fresh water to the people. However, the administration seems to overlook us.”
“In the past four days, two of our casual labourers have died while performing their duties, yet no one seems to be addressing this issue, which is deeply shameful. We would like to appeal to the administration to ensure justice for the families affected,” they said.
If the Minimum Wages Act stipulates a wage range of 18,000 to 28,000, why are we only receiving 9,000 here in Kashmir? they asked, adding that if the government claims that we are one country, why doesn’t this rule apply here?
“We request the administration to fulfill all the promises made to us and provide justice to us by resolving our issues,” they added.
