Gurez sees massive turnout of visitors

53000 visitors visit Valley in last 4 days, official data

Gurez, Jul 3: The picturesque region of Gurez Valley in Bandipora district has attracted a whopping number of 53,000 tourists, both locals as well as non-locals, in the last four days.
With its breathtaking landscapes and rich cultural heritage, Gurez has emerged as a popular destination for trekking, camping, and fishing.
Nestled amidst the Greater Himalaya, Gurez Valley boasts a unique charm that is unparalleled. With its snow-free terrain from June to September, adventure enthusiasts and nature lovers flock to this stunning region to embark on an unforgettable journey through the mighty mountain ranges. Not only does it offer mesmerizing views of the surrounding peaks, but it also provides an opportunity to immerse oneself in the vibrant culture of the Shina-speaking Dards, the indigenous people of the valley.
According to data, the Gurez Valley has experienced a significant influx of tourists in the past four days, with approximately 53,000 visitors visiting the valley.
“With the ongoing influx of tourists, the local economy of Gurez Valley is experiencing a boost, benefiting businesses such as hotels, homestays, and local vendors. This surge in tourism not only generates employment opportunities for the locals but also helps in the overall development of the region,” the locals said.
Rohit Kapoor, a Delhi-based adventure enthusiast, said, “Gurez Valley has exceeded my expectations in every possible way. The camping experience here is unparalleled, with the starlit skies and the soothing sound of the Kishanganga River. It’s a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of city life.”
Rohit Singh, a Mumbai traveler, said, “I have always been fascinated by the Himalayas, and Gurez Valley has given me an opportunity to witness their grandeur up close. The unique culture and traditions of the Dard people have left a lasting impression on me. I feel privileged to have explored this hidden gem.”
Abdul Hameed, a local, said that the Valley holds a special place in our hearts. “The influx of tourists not only brings economic opportunities for our community but also allows us to showcase our rich cultural heritage and traditions. It’s heartwarming to see so many visitors appreciating the beauty of our valley,” he said.
An official said that they are delighted by the enthusiastic response from tourists to Gurez Valley.
To cater to this increasing interest, he said that they are committed to enhancing the valley’s tourism infrastructure and boosting facilities.
“Collaborating with local communities, we will establish more homestays to provide visitors with authentic experiences and foster economic opportunities,” the official said, adding that their focus remains on promoting sustainable tourism, ensuring the preservation of Gurez Valley’s natural beauty for future generations to enjoy. “Together, we look forward to developing Gurez Valley into a thriving adventure tourism destination,” he added.
