Leh, Jul 13: In a historic moment, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), GoI, grants permission to foreign tourists to visit and stay at Hanle, Changthang, specifically for the upcoming Ladakh Nomadic Festival 2023, scheduled to be held from July 15-16 at Hanle in Changthang region.
Hanle in the Changthang region of Ladakh is one of the most beautiful, enchanting, calm, and soul-losing places in India. Hanle has a hill-top Hanle Monastery offering some great aerial views of the whole village that is home to about 1000 people.
Hanle also houses an Indian Astronomical Observatory which is the world’s highest observatory in the world at a staggering height of 4500 Mtrs.
The Hanle Observatory is operated by the Indian Institute of Astrophysics, Bengaluru, and is currently the second-highest optical observatory in the world, with an installed telescope of about 2.01 meters (6.5 feet) in diameter.
Meanwhile, CEC, LAHDC Leh, Tashi Gyalson expressed heartfelt gratitude to Union Home Minister, Hon’ble Amit Shah led Ministry of Home Affairs and Lt Governor, Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) B D Mishra (Retd), for allowing foreign guests to visit Hanle for the Ladakh Nomadic Festival.
He also thanked MP Ladakh, Jamyang Tsering Namgyal, UT Administration headed by Advisor, UT Ladakh, Dr Pawan Kotwal for their support.
Highlighting the importance of the Nomadic Festival, CEC Gyalson added that the visitation permit for foreign tourists, apart from domestic tourists, to the eastern border of Ladakh has been a long genuine pending demand and heartily welcomes the MHA decision.
He expressed hope that in the near future, MHA would generally permit foreign tourists to visit and stay in Hanle and all other important areas of Changthang without restrictions.
