Srinagar, Jul 17: Authorities on Monday carried out a demolition drive against the “illegal occupants and encroachers” in the Batamaloo area of Srinagar.
An official of the Srinagar Development Authority (SDA) said that the drive was carried against the “illegal occupants/encroachers” inside the general bus stand Batamaloo.
The action has been initiated against the sheds/shops which have recently come up on the government land in the general bus stand illegally, he said.
Apart from that, a patch of land was also retrieved from the encroachers at Rekh Chowk Batamaloo, the official said, adding that the original position has been restored.
He said the demolition drive was carried out on the direction and under the supervision of Vice Chairman SDA Haris Handoo, and with the assistance of police officials from the Police Control Room
“We once again warn the people to desist from illegal or unauthorised constructions in the jurisdictional areas of Srinagar Development Authority,” he said.
Meanwhile, the locals from the area alleged that the department carried out the drive without any prior notice.
