Ganderbal, Jul 20: The existing buildings of the Government Boys Primary School Satrina Kangan in Ganderbal district have developed cracks, thus posing a threat to the lives of hundreds of students and staff members.
The residents of the area said that both buildings are damaged and the chances of their collapse have increased manifold.
“Our children are made to study in these buildings due to the non-availability of a new one. We always remain worried about the well-being of children and teachers,” said a local.
A parent of one of the students said, “Our children are studying under the shadow of death. The building can collapse anytime which can result in fatalities.”
The students are also suffering due to a lack of adequate accommodation, she said.
Deputy Sarpanch of the area said that the buildings had developed cracks and the matter was brought to the notice of the concerned department several times but to no avail.
The locals also demanded the upgradation of the primary school to middle school. They have appealed to Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal to look into the matter.
