Pulwama, Jun 22: Dangling electric wires tied with trees, worn-out wooden poles are posing a grave threat to the lives of people as well as to their properties in several villages of Pulwama, Shopian and Kulgam districts.
The residents of Noorpora, Rakh, Zahid Bagh, Darbagh and its adjacent villages in Pulwama district, Bandpawa, Chitragam and Chidipora villages in Shopian district and Kund and Qazigund area of Kulgam district alleged that they are living under constant fear due to low lying electric wires tied with trees and decaying electric poles in their villages.
The locals said the electric lines touch roofs of houses and trees on roads posing risk to life and property.
“Due to low lying overhead transmission lines, we are not able to work properly in the fields. We have been requesting the concerned department to replace the dangling and damaged electric wires and poles but our pleas fell on deaf ears,” said Danish Ahmad a resident of the Kund area.
He said last time in back to village programmes we have demanded electric poles and wires in the area but on the ground, nothing has been done.
Mohammed Yousuf, a resident of Bandpawa Shopian, said that all low tension wires in their the village has been tied with trees in absence of poles due to which the wires are very low and weak which often gets damaged.
“We have taken up the issue with the administration several times but on the ground nothing has been done,” Yousuf said.
Same concerns were echoed from the other areas of South Kashmir as well.
Locals requested higher-ups to look into the matter and provide them with new electric wire and poles.
