J&K to witness hot, dry weather till Aug 10: Weatherman

Srinagar, Aug 4: After record-breaking rainfall in the month of July, the weatherman here has predicted hot and dry weather in Jammu & Kashmir till August 10, saying that there is no forecast of any major rainfall this week.
Director Meteorological department, Sonum Lotus said that the weather would remain mainly hot and dry till August 05 and 06.
He said that amid the hot & dry weather conditions, there is a possibility of rain at isolated to scattered places of Jammu & Kashmir towards late afternoon and evening.
However, Lotus said that the weather would remain mainly dry between August 07-August 10 as there is no forecast of any major rainfall this week.
Pertinently, the forecast of hot and dry weather comes after a record-break rainfall in the month of July as due to the frequent wet spells last month, Srinagar—the summer capital of Jammu & Kashmir has broken all previous records as for the first time since 1891, the station received a precipitation of 187.2 mm.
Moreover, as per the details available, J&K in the ongoing season from June 01, 2023-August 02-2023 has recorded a rainfall of 312.9 mm against a normal of 285.4 mm.
As per the data prepared by local IMD department, Srinagar, Pulwama, Ganderbal and Doda stations have received large excess rainfall during the period while Anantnag, Bandipora, Baramulla, Kathua, Kulgam, Ramban and Udhampur have recorded an excess rainfall.
Shopian in South Kashmir is the only place where a deficient rainfall during the period has been recorded as according to the data, against the normal precipitation of 152.5 mm, it has received only 110.3 mm, which is 28 per cent deficient.
As per the data, Kishtwar in Jammu division has recorded large deficient rainfall of 62 percent during the period as against the normal of 230.3 mm, the station has recorded only 86.5 mm rainfall.
