Srinagar, Aug 9: Peoples Conference president Sajad Gani Lone on Wednesday afternoon called on senior Supreme Court lawyer Rajeev Dhawan, who will argue on behalf of the party tomorrow before the five- judge constitution bench hearing petitions challenging abrogation of the Article 370.
Reports said that Lone along with senior party leaders left for New Delhi this morning to meet Dhawan, who is representing the party in the case. Among other leaders, Lone is accompanied by senior party leader Muhammad Ashraf Mir, who had served as State’s Law Secretary and was at the forefront of preparing defence for Article 35A when it was challenged before the Supreme Court.
Peoples Conference had challenged abrogation of Article 370 and reorganisation of Jammu and Kashmir when its top leaders including Sajad Gani Lone were in detention after August 5, 2019.
Dhawan, a respected name in Indian legal circle, is considered an expert on constitutional matters. He is a human rights activist and a Commissioner of the International Commission of Jurists. (KNO)
