Poonch, Aug 14: In a remarkable effort to promote environmental sustainability and community engagement, the Poonch Campus and Horticulture Department Chandak Poonch organized a highly successful plantation drive under the banner of the “Mere Matti Mera Desh” initiative.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, faculty members, non-teaching staff members. On the occasion pledge ceremony was also held under the “Mere Matti Mera Desh” initiative, brought together students, faculty members in a collective commitment to safeguarding the environment and nurturing our shared natural heritage.
Director Poonch Campus Prof. Rakesh Vaid in his message said that the “Mere Matti Mera Desh” initiative, which translates to “My Soil, My Country,” aims to raise awareness about the significance of preserving and enriching the environment through tree planting and nurturing. “This initiative aligns perfectly with the Campus’s commitment to fostering a green and sustainable campus environment, while also emphasizing the importance of individual contributions to combating climate change,’ he added.
The plantation drive saw the active involvement of students, faculty members and non-teaching staff members who enthusiastically planted a diverse array of saplings, including native trees and plants that are essential for maintaining the region’s biodiversity. Students and faculty members collaborated to create a thriving green space that will not only contribute to the campus’s aesthetics but will also serve as a living laboratory for practical lessons in sustainable agriculture and ecology.
Horticulture Development Officer Chandak Poonch Jatinder Pal Singh his gratitude to all the participants especially students and highlighted the broader goals of the initiative. “We believe that nurturing a sense of responsibility towards our environment is paramount. The ‘Mere Matti Mera Desh’ initiative is not just a one-time event; it’s a continuous commitment to preserving our natural heritage for generations to come. Through such efforts, we hope to inspire others to take similar actions and collectively make a positive impact.”
He further said that the Horticulture Department Poonch looks forward to the continued success of the “Mere Matti Mera Desh” initiative and its positive impact on the environment and the local community.
“The Poonch Campus always remains dedicated to pursuing innovative approaches that contribute to a greener and healthier future for all,” he added.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Rubia Bukhari Campus Officer/Incharge Department of Sericulture, Poonch Campus thanked the Horticulture Department Poonch on behalf of Director Poonch Campus for organizing plantation drive under the banner of the “Mere Matti Mera Desh” initiative at Poonch Campus.
She said that Poonch Campus is committed to advancing knowledge and understanding in the field of sustainable Horticulture. Through research, education and community engagement, the Department of Sericulture aims to develop solutions that address contemporary agricultural and environmental challenges.
About “Mere Matti Mera Desh” Initiative: Dr Rubia Bukhari said that “Mere Matti Mera Desh” is an environmental initiative focused on tree planting and environmental awareness. “It encourages individuals and communities to take an active role in preserving and enhancing their natural surroundings through sustainable practices and collective action’ She added.
