Jammu, Jun 23: Border Security Force (BSF) on Wednesday shot dead an alleged Pakistani smuggler and claimed to have foiled a major narco-militant smuggling bid in Hirannagar sector of Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district along International Border.
BSF said that it has seized 27 kg of heroin along the International Border in Kathua district, which costs approximately Rs 135 crores in international market.
According to the BSF officials, the troopers guarding at Border Out post at Vinay in Kathua, noticed some suspicious movement on IB from Pakistan side during the wee hours of June 23.
When the Pakistani smugglers entered IB towards Indian side, they were challenged and fired upon by the vigilant guards, officials said.
“During search of the area, 27 packets (One Kg each) of heroin were found near the fence having an approximate value of this narco-consignment is about Rs 135 crore in the international market. The body of a smuggler was also found during the search operation,” the BSF officials said.
N S Jamwal, IG BSF, Jammu Frontier informed that they are getting regular inputs about narcotic smuggling by Pakistan through IB.
“We have already beefed-up our security apparatus and yesterday night our troopers noticed suspicious movement of 2-3 persons very close to the fence,” he said, adding that they challenged the smugglers but the sound of cocking guns was heard by alert troopers who fired and killed one smuggler.
IG said that in the morning 27 kg of heroin worth Rs 135 crores was recovered near the fence and a dead body of a smuggler also found at the spot.
Jamwal said that it was the same spot where earlier Pakistan dropped weapons and the tunnels were also detected in Pansar area of Hiranagar.
They also informed that the Narcotics Control Bureau personnel have also arrived on the site.
With this recovery, BSF Jammu has once again exposed the nefarious designs of Pak authorities to smuggle Narcotics consignment to India through International border, the BSF said in a statement.
