In a dramatic scene, the valley’s sole maternity hospital in Srinagar, known as Lal Ded Hospital here has witnessed an unexpected incident as reportedly a man from central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district was impersonating as a Cardiologist at the hospital for nearly three days. The man was caught by one of the on-duty RMO after he asked the patient to undergo ‘mandatory’ ECG. The incident is first of its kind as such an unexpected event has taken place for the first time in Jammu & Kashmir. Impersonating as Cardiologist, the man could not have only jeopardized the lives of patients, but has also breached the privacy of a woman in the hospital as the hospice is the only maternity hospital where a huge rush of patients from across the Valley visit for treatment on a regular basis. Such an incident needs to be probed thoroughly as it could have landed any family into trouble. Although the man has been arrested, it needs to be checked how the man has got access to enter into the hospital and visit the wards and other places as well. The involvement of other officials within the hospital should also be probed. Furthermore, there is a need to improve and enhance the security at the hospital so that no such incident is repeated in the future and also the privacy of the women visiting the hospital for treatment and other purposes are properly taken care of.
