The power theft cases have become one of the major causes of uninterrupted electricity supply in Jammu and Kashmir while the government amid the complaints of the pesky power cuts have decided to go tough against the consumers involved in such practices. The consumers from across the Valley have been complaining of erratic power supply for the last over one month, but the fact is that there are certain reasons that have led to the pesky power cuts here. One among the major reasons is the power theft cases are on rise, which has taken a heavy toll on the electricity supply as well. The Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha in a meeting chaired a few days back directed the concerned Power Development Department (PDD) officials to go tough against the consumers involved in the act. The decision to go tough against the power theft is need of the hour as it would help in achieving a target of saving the electricity and also help the concerned department to ensure better electricity supply to the consumers and the dream of round-the-clock electricity is achieved well on time. It is the time when the concerned department should constitute high-level teams and checking squads to start a massive drive across Jammu and Kashmir in this regard so that all the involved persons are dealt with strictly and the illegal power theft cases are reduced. The action against the power theft is imperative ahead of the winter season so that better electricity supply is ensured to the consumers so that they could heave a sigh of relief.
