Srinagar, Oct 21: Stating that the terrorism in J&K is counting its last days, Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbagh Singh Saturday said that “narco-terror war” is now being imposed on the UT.
“Terrorism is counting its last days in J&K as we have successfully dealt with it over the years. Credit goes to the fallen heroes who sacrificed their lives to make UT terror free. As terrorism is on its deathbed, narco-terror war is being imposed on the J&K now,” J&K police chief Dilbagh Singh told reporters on the side-lines of police commemoration day at Zewan in Srinagar.
He said in the past few years, 38 cases related to narco-terror were registered in various police stations of J&K. “Some cases are being investigated by the NIA, some by the State Investigating Agency (SIA) and some by police also,” DGP said.
He said during the course of investigations into the recent case of 30 kg recovery at Ramban, links were traced in Punjab, Kupwara and now in Uttrakhand too. Interestingly, eight arrests including four from Punjab and four from Kupwara have already been arrested so far.
About the local terrorist recruitment, DGP said that youth of J&K have understood the futility of terror and are now shaping their future in various streams. “Last year, 110 youth joined terrorism and this year the figure is just ten of which six were killed while four are still active. I once again appeal to all misguided youth to return home. If the remaining four youth who are roaming around with weapons return, our doors are open to receive them,” the J&K Police chief said.
On infiltration and launch pads across LoC, the DGP said that 90 per cent of the infiltration attempts were dealt along the LoC alone this year while a few who managed to sneak in were killed in encounters. “Though many launch pads across LoC were closed but some are still active in Sialkote side and Gurez side,” he said.
Earlier, addressing the police commemoration day at Zewan , DGP Singh, said that J&K has been hit by the menace of terrorism since the past over three decades. “The fight against wiping out the terrorism from J&K soil is reaching its logical conclusion. Efforts are on to make the prevailing peace in J&K as a permanent feature,” DGP said.
He said that even though efforts to disrupt peace from across continue, police are working hard to foil all such bids. He said this year eight policemen including officers were killed in anti-militancy operations. “Some officers from the army and other forces also lost their lives,” he said.
The DGP said that over the past few years, the situation has witnessed a sea change in Kashmir. “J&K is on the path of peace and development,” he said. The J&K police chief paid rich tributes to the fallen heroes stating that so far 1606 policemen were killed in line of duty.
“Today, we stand with our martyrs and pay them rich tributes. J&K and the entire nation is highly indebted to them,” he said, adding that the entire police force stands with the families of police martyrs.
Meanwhile, J&K police organised a blood donation camp in which 200 policemen participated and donated blood
On reports of CFV in Jammu/Kupwara: DGP said that two incidents one in Kupwara and Arnia sector in Jammu are being investigated. “Truth will come to the fore soon. Ceasefire pact is being followed in spirit elsewhere along the LoC in IB,” he said. “Once the details of Kupwara and Arnia sectors will come, the same will be shared with the media. Meanwhile, LG Manoj Sinha also paid tributes to slain policemen by laying wreaths at the memorial at Armed Police Complex Zewan, Srinagar.
