Baramulla, Nov 9: Omar Azhar Kakroo, who has served as the longest-standing President of Municipal Council Baramulla, concluded his tenure with inauguration of critical developmental projects on his last day in office.
During his two tenures as President of MC Baramulla, Kakroo demonstrated unwavering commitment to the well-being of Baramulla and its residents. His contributions have significantly enhanced the town’s infrastructure and the quality of life for its residents.
In his first term, Kakroo approved essential procurements, including 1100 streetlights, 8 garbage hoopers, a New Sucker Machine and 4000 dustbins. These initiatives improved the town’s sanitation and public services, making it a cleaner and more organized place to live.
Furthermore, he authorized transformative developmental works including the Ornamental lighting of the main market, Beautification of the outer space of Carriappa Park, enhanced car parking facilities, and vital deep drainage projects in locations like Noorbagh, Stadium Colony, Janbazpora, Sheikul Alam Colony, and Jetty Khawaja Bagh, with a total investment of nearly 41 crores. This also included projects such as Bagh-i-Islam marriage hall and the Fish Market Bridge.
During his second term, Kakroo allocated an additional 5.11 crores for the town’s development. These funds will be utilized for the construction of a clock tower, a beautiful fountain, and over 100 additional developmental works in town. His administration also acquired 10 garbage hoopers and will install 620 streetlights including highmass streetlights further improving the town’s infrastructure and services.
In addition to these initiatives, Kakroo ensured the welfare of the residents by releasing funds amounting to Rs.4.60 Crores to 641 eligible beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna (PMAY-U). Furthermore, funds of Rs 7.81 lacs have been released to various beneficiaries under the IHHL scheme (Integrated Household latrines) & in additional to this 4 no of Public toilets and 4 no of Community toilets have been constructed during his tenure, costing 98.50 Lacs.
Kakroo’s dedication to the welfare of Baramulla Town and the Municipal Council Baramulla has been exemplary, and his commitment to progress and development in the region has left a lasting impact.
