Hafsa Javaid

A well-known and esteemed columnist of Kashmir, Aubaid Akhoon, aptly asserts, “The Quran melts hard hearts and mends broken ones. The crying of humankind is unique, distinct from others; it is a cry of fear of the Almighty and a plea for His satisfaction. People weep in grief, sorrow for demands and hopes, and some shed tears of lies and deception. Among them are those who weep with heartbreak, and some express non-beneficial remorse. The Quran praises the cry of fear of Allah from previous nations and instructs the sons of the Islamic nation to follow suit.
The divine book, the Holy Quran, encompasses all the principles and branches of religion, serving as a comprehensive guide and the ultimate answer to the world of humanity. It is a book of speech, constituting a complete law. The Quran is a prescription for healing, an enlightened leader, a precise balance, a strong preacher, an informed and insightful guide, a guiding light in darkness, a powerful speaker, and eloquent. It is a mercy to the worlds and a book that distinguishes truth from falsehood. Additionally, it is a compilation of historical, political, military, educational, jurisprudential, ethical, doctrinal, natural, hygienic, industrial, philosophical, literary, mathematical, and other sciences and subjects.” (Aubaid Akhoon)
The Quran, the holy book of Muslims, constitutes the fundamental guide for leading a modest life in accordance with the Hadith and Sunnah of our beloved Prophet (PBUH). This divine book is bestowed upon the Muslim community, serving as a basic and essential need without which a devout Muslim or Muslimah cannot expect to navigate their lives successfully. Our belief hinges on upholding the Quran by heart for true success.
In today’s world, science is an indispensable tool for technological and societal development. People have become so immersed in the modern tactics of science that it helps them overcome every hurdle in life. The fast-paced progress of science enables us even to trace the direction of a spark of light.
While some perceive science and the Quran as separate entities, they are, in fact, intricately connected. Science is seen as the Quran in a different form, suggesting a parallelism between the two. The Quran has long ago articulated the facts that science is currently proving. Unfortunately, many fail to focus on extracting scientific knowledge from the Quran, partly due to the lack of understanding in the past. The advent of science revolutionized lives, leading people to realize the purpose of their existence.
Over the past few years, the Quran and science have collaboratively contributed to effective success, transforming the current world into a contrastive phase from millions of years ago. The question arises: who is responsible for this revolution — the Quran or science?
The Quran itself encourages congruency with truths attained by modern science, encompassing knowledge in biology, technology, physics, and more. According to a Pew Center study on religion and education from the 2016 census, Jews, the most educated religious group, acknowledge deriving significant knowledge from the Quran.
Specific Quranic verses directly correlate with scientific concepts, such as the mention of atoms (Surah Zalzalah, verse no. 7-8), the big bang theory (Surah Ambiyaa, verse no. 30), the moon and its phases (36-39), and the splitting of the moon (Surah Al-Qamar). The Quran even mentions black holes or collapsed stars as an invisible passage, covering concepts from the theory of relativity, quantum physics, mechanics, embryology, geology, and thermodynamics.
The world of technology is advancing with the guidance of the Quran, attempting to find resolutions to various matters collectively with science. Unfortunately, many Muslims are unaware of these facts, and there is a contrastive situation where non-Muslims are utilizing the benefits more.
When we consider the importance of the Quran, we find that every creature around us is full of scientific backgrounds and theories mentioned in the Quran. The Holy Quran, with over 6000 Ayat speaking about science, is not merely a book of science but a book of signs pointing to major scientific concepts. While the Quran and science have distinct ideologies, they are not alienated from each other. As science advances, scientists are increasingly moving towards accepting Islam, showcasing the legacy of the Quran.
Observing day-to-day life post-modernization, there is a drastic change in society as people have advanced their mindsets and altered their mode of rationalizing and evaluating things with the progress in science and technology.
