Handwara, Nov 23: Residents of Tulwari have expressed strong resentment against the authorities for failing to complete the construction of a bridge over Mawer Nallah, which is awaiting completion for around a decade.
The aggrieved residents said the bridge over Mawer Nallah is crucial for connecting several areas and easing the lives of the entire population.
Bilal Ahmad, a local resident, said they have been facing immense hardships due to the unfinished status of the bridge, which connects various villages in the Langate belt. “People of all ages, including men, women, the elderly, and children, have been suffering from a lack of connectivity for years, while the authorities seem unmoved despite being well aware of the public’s hardships,” he said.
Ikhlaq Ahmad, another resident, said the bridge would significantly shorten their travel distance and bring ease to their lives. “It will help us reach our destinations more easily and on time,” he said.
According to residents, when the construction initially started, the pace of the work was rapid and accurate; however, after some time, the construction was left halfway and has been awaiting completion since.
Abdul Qareem, another local, expressed frustration over the inaction of the concerned executing agency. “While construction work resumed a few months ago, it was once again abandoned, leaving the entire population to suffer,” he said.
The aggrieved residents have urged the Lieutenant Governor to intervene in the matter and direct the resumption of construction work at the earliest.
