Srinagar, Dec 6: After the recent wet spell, the Kashmir Valley has witnessed a significant dip in the minimum temperatures while eight parts across the Valley have recorded the coldest night of the season.
Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu & Kashmir, recorded the coldest night of the season at minus 2.0 degree Celsius.
The data prepared by the local meteorological department (MeT) here further reveals that Srinagar, Qazigund, Ganderbal, Pahalgam, Kupwara, Shopian, Bandipora and Baramulla recorded the coldest night of the season.
In Qazigund, the mercury settled at minus 2.0 degree Celsius while in Gulmarg, a famous ski-resort, a minimum temperature of minus 2.2 degree Celsius was recorded.
Pahalgam, a famous tourist place, recorded a low of minus 5.1 degree Celsius while Kupwara in north Kashmir recorded a minimum temperature of minus 2.7 degree Celsius.
The minimum temperature declined across Kashmir following the day-long wet spell in Kashmir November 30, 2023.
The weatherman had predicted a significant drop in the minimum temperatures, saying that the night temperature is expected to fall by 3-5 degree Celsius.
Meanwhile, Director MeT, Dr Mukhtar Ahmad said that the minimum temperature is expected to go further down in the coming days as there is no forecast of any major weather activity till December 14.
However, he said that light snowfall is expected at isolated places in the higher reaches on December 12.
“Overall, no major weather activity is expected till December 14 and the weather would remain mostly dry and cloudy during the period,” he said.
