Decline in Hajj applications deserves attention

While the hectic efforts are on to bring a massive change in terms of development of roads, markets and other things in Srinagar, but the absence of adequate parking slots have turned out to be a major cause of hardships to the people. It has been observed that the people are parking their vehicles on the roadsides, which adds to the miseries of people as the commuters are being forced to commute through the narrow roads in the already congested roads of City areas. It is not about the illegal car parking on the roadsides only, but the majority of footpaths are also occupied by the street vendors here, which make it tough for the pedestrians to walk on the roadsides. Walking on the roadsides not only leaves the pedestrians to suffer, but also puts their lives at risk as well. Thus simultaneously, the efforts being made by the government to reduce the road accidents would also not reach to the logical conclusion. The situation is worse outside the prominent superspeciality hospital here in Srinagar as the footpath stretch from Shireen Bagh to Shri Mahara Hari Singh (SMHS) is completely encroached by the street vendors while the illegal car parking outside the hospital is also leading to the frequent traffic congestion in the area. The only parking available in SMHS hospital premises is not enough to tackle the rush of huge vehicles while at the same time, the parking space available in superspeciality hospital has been thrown out of bounds for the common people. At a time when the developmental works are going on across Srinagar, there is a need to give a proper consideration about coming up with more parking slots for the people for which the land should be identified at all the busiest places so that the rush of vehicles can be tackled easily and the sufferings of people would come to an end.
