Srinagar, Dec 23: Several areas of Kashmir received fresh snowfall on Saturday while the minimum temperature recorded a considerable improvement under the influence of weak Western Disturbance.
According to reports, multiple places of Kashmir including Gulmarg, Shopian higher reaches, Sonamarg, Sinthan Top, Zojila and higher reaches of Bandipora received light snowfall today.
A fresh, but weak Western Disturbance affected Jammu & Kashmir today, thereby resulting in a light spell of snowfall at multiple places, which led to the rise in the mercury as it settled above freezing point at all the stations of Kashmir excluding Gulmarg.
As per the data, Gulmarg was the only place where the mercury settled below freezing point at minus 1.5 degree Celsius.
Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir recorded a minimum temperature of 1.2 degree Celsius while Qaizgund, the gateway of Kashmir recorded 1.4 degree Celsius.
Pahalgam in South Kashmir recorded a minimum temperature of 0.2 degree Celsius while Kokernag and Kupwara recorded a minimum temperature of 1.2 degree Celsius and 1.3 degree Celsius respectively.
Nonetheless, the Director Meteorological department (MeT) has predicted a significant fall in the minimum temperature from tomorrow onwards.
He said that as per the forecast, the weather is expected to remain generally dry from tomorrow till December 31st.
“Overall, no significant weather activity is expected till ending December,” he said.
