The newly introduced e-buses, commonly known as the ‘Red Buses’, are turning out to be a major relief to the women passengers particularly and the common masses in general, but so far these buses are only operating in the 14 designated routes across Srinagar. In the last two months, the e-buses have received immense response from the general public as these buses though the mobile applications are easily being located and its timings have proved a major sigh of relief to the public. As far as the officials are concerned, nearly 5 lakh people have availed the service of the buses in the last 60 days. Since their launch, these buses have covered a total distance of nearly 7 lakh kilometers on the designated routes, which fall within the city as well as the outskirts, depicting these buses as the preferred mode of commute in Srinagar. While the people are in all praise for these e-buses, the concerned department should identify more routes so that nobody is deprived of the benefits. Earlier, the women passengers were facing tremendous hardships while travelling in the passenger vehicles, but given the facilities provided by the government in these e-buses, they are now heaving a sigh of relief and the harassment they were facing in their daily lives has also come to an end. Since the launch of e-buses are bringing major respite to the people, there is a need to identify more routes so that the people living across the summer capital of Jammu & Kashmir would avail the benefits and especially the women passengers in these areas would also have some respite as well.
