As the Kashmir valley is grappling with the prolonged dry spell for the past over two months now, the people have been following the traditional path to seek divine intervention for the improvement in the prevailing weather conditions. In one such instance, the people have been preparing Sas-Ras, a traditional feast, for the past two days here with an aim to have a respite from the prolonged dry spell. It is believed that the Sas-Ras ritual is meant to invoke intercession with Almighty Allah to bring rainfall during the exceptionally dry days. People have not only opted the traditional path, but have also taken the religious route as well. The Muslims offered special prayers ‘Salat-ul-Istisqa’ while the Sikhs held special prayers on Guru Govind Singh Ji’s birthday. In such a way, people are united across the regions and have been praying for the Almighty’s help to witness an end to the prolonged dry spell. Therefore, such a unity has always been witnessed across the region whenever it comes to the difficult situation akin to the one being witnessed at present. However, the people need to show such unity everywhere and in every aspect, especially when it comes to the social crimes and particularly the rising drug menace. With unity amongst all the communities, society can achieve unimaginable progress in putting an end to social crimes. This unity is imperative to ensure that the land of sufi saints will stay away from such evil episodes.
