501 posts lying vacant at GMC Udhampur

'To meet deficiency, staff being regularly hired on academic arrangements basis'

Srinagar, Feb 9: A startling revelation has come to the fore through the Right to Information (RTI) as the authorities have admitted that 501 posts out of 601 sanctioned posts are lying vacant at Government Medical College (GMC) and Associated Hospital Udhampur.
As per the details available, a total of 601 posts have been sanctioned Government Medical College (GMC) and Associated Hospital Udhampur, however only 100 are in the position while the rest of 501 are lying vacant.
It has come to the fore that to meet deficiencies, authorities have been regularly recruiting staff on the basis of academic arrangement.
Details reveal that out of sanctioned 24 posts of professor (HoD), 10 are in position while 24 are vacant, out of 34 sanctioned posts of associate professors just two are in position while 32 are vacant and similarly out of 52 assistant professors, 32 are in position and 20 are vacant.
The details further reveal that out of 84 senior residents or demonstrators, 30 are in position while 54 are lying vacant and out of 63 junior residents, 19 are in position while 44 are lying vacant.
Details further reveal that out of 14 Medical Officer Posts, four are in position and 10 are lying vacant while out of 330 para medical staff, three are in position while 327 are lying vacant.
The information was obtained through the Right to Information (RTI) filed by MM Shuja.
While replying to the question regarding steps taken to fill vacancies, officials said to meet the deficiency for Tutors/Lecturers/ Professors in Govt. Medical College Udhampur, the recruitment is regularly being made on an academic arrangement basis(SO-364) till permanent staff is appointed by the higher authorities.
Giving details about the infrastructure, officials said that under the scheme “Construction of New Govt. Medical College, Udhampur the work of several infrastructure projects is in progress that includes Administrative and Academic Block, Auditorium, Animal House, Hostel Block including Boys Hostel, Girls Hostel, Resident/ Internship (Boys and Girls Hostel), Nurses Accommodation, Canteen, Gym and up-gradation of teaching district hospital.
