While the role of the administration has ended, the rates of mutton available in the market continue to fluctuate as it is being sold against the rates fixed by the association concerned, which shows that the butchers have been let loose to loot the people at their will. None of the departments are reportedly entitled to check the market rates of the mutton as the union is itself looking into the matter. However, the butchers in the markets continue to flout the rates by selling the per kg meat to the consumers at exorbitant rates. The butchers are selling mutton at the rate of Rs 700 per kg, while the union itself has fixed Rs 650 as the rate of one kilogram meat, but unfortunately they are not paying any heed to it and are openly violating the regulations of association. However, there has been no check on the grading as well. The consumers are unaware about the mutton grades, which they are purchasing from the markets, but one fails to understand who is going to resolve this issue of the consumer and make sure there is no cheating with the consumers in any manner. The association should act responsibly and the concerned Department of Food Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA) should once again be asked to take charge of ensuring the adherence to the rates and also the best grades available for them in the market for consumers. It is the time when the government needs to take a call in this regard and ensure there is no more loot of consumers in the markets.
