Pulwama, Feb 16: The residents of Dalipora area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district are up in arms against the Jal Shakti department for failing in providing potable drinking water supply to them.
The residents of Dalipora in Pulwama town staged a protest against the department today morning.
They said that they are getting contaminated water due to which they are facing immense hardships.
“In absence of a potable water facility, they are being forced to drink contaminated water, which can lead to the water-borne diseases,” said Manzoor Ahmad, a local resident.
He added that their children and elderly people in the area often fall sick and the reason behind it was the contaminated water being supplied to them.
“We are getting water from the water supply scheme but it is all full of dirt,” said Maroofa, a local resident.
Locals said that despite the availability of several water supply schemes in the area, authorities have failed in ensuring potable water to the area.
They said that if authorities continue to provide them with the contaminated water, water-borne diseases can break anytime.
Locals said that they have brought this issue into the notice of higher ups several times but to no avail.
They requested higher ups to look into the matter at an earliest so that they could heave a sigh of relief.
