The forthcoming Muslim festival, Eid-ul-Adha has brought cheer among the faces of Muslims across Jammu and Kashmir, who could be seen in the markets, buying essentials, sacrificial animals other commodities. After three consecutive Eids, it is for the first time that the Covid curbs have been almost lifted as the situation has improved on the ground. Although the cases are on decline, there is a need to ensure that the Standard Operating procedures (SOPs) are followed in spirit ahead and on the eve of Eid. However, the sufferings of people have started mounting as the overpricing of essential commodities has yet again haunted them. The market prices have yet again pushed the consumers to the wall as the people are being looted openly while the stringent action seems missing on the ground. Nonetheless, the government has been claiming to have taken measures on the ground and is taking the norm violators to the task. One fails to understand why there is no sigh of relief among the consumers in the markets at a time when the government is claiming an action on the ground. The people are being openly looted as the essentials are being sold at exorbitant rates. There is a need to depute more teams ahead of the festival to ensure that the common people are pushed to the wall and the commodities are sold as per the government fixed rates.
