Kangan, Jul 15: Commercial structures are coming up ‘illegally’ on Srinagar-Leh Highway much against the claims being made by the authorities that court directions are being implemented in letter and spirit and nobody is permitted to raise any structure illegally.
Locals from Preng and Haripora villages of Kangan here in Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district said that illegal shopping complexes are coming up along main road while authorities have turned a blind eye. They said prompt action is being initiated against locals when they construct any house for personal purpose while no action is being taken against those who raise structures for business purposes.
The locals said that work on several commercial complexes is going at full pace and that too in broad day light. “Top administrative and revenue officials pass through the road on daily basis and yet they don’t take note of these illegal constructions,” said a local.
The illegal shopping complexes according to locals are being raised in different areas including Preng and Haripora along Srinagar-Kargil highway.
“We have no grudge or complain against the owners of these commercial structures. Our simple question is that why poor people are being restricted from constructing their houses and big fish given free hand to raise structures for commercial purposes,” they said.
When contacted, Sub Divisional Magistrate Kangan, Hakim Tanveer said he will visit both Haripora and Preng to ascertain facts. (KNT)
