Rideable roads amidst rush of shoppers

The rideable surface of all the roads in Srinagar has to be ensured within the five days as the divisional administration has passed strict directions to the concerned authorities to facilitate smooth traffic movement in view of Eid and other festivals. But, one needs to understand whether the rideable surface of all the roads in Srinagar is possible for the executing agencies. The roads and streets across Srinagar are abuzz with the shoppers ahead of the festivals, but unfortunately passing such a direction at this juncture is seemingly not possible as the congested roads amidst the huge rush of people will only land the shoppers into the trouble. The decision is unlikely to make people’s passage easier as the work at this juncture would hamper the vehicular moment as well as the passage to the pedestrians. The time is not apt to speed up the work for making the Srinagar roads rideable for the commuters. It could have been best in case the government would have set a time frame for such a purpose to the executing agencies almost ten days back. But since the administration remained tight-lipped over the issue, it would be injustice with both the executing agencies as well as the shoppers to carry forward the work on Srinagar roads amidst the flow of shoppers. Instead, the government should halt the work for a couple of days so that the shoppers will not face any inconvenience ahead of the upcoming holy festivals like Eid-ul-Fitr, Navratra and Ramanavami.
