Several private schools in Gandbal surroundings to remain shut for two days

‘Step to express solidarity with bereaved families’

Srinagar, Apr 17: Several private schools in adjacent areas of Gandbal Wednesday decided to close educational institutions for two days in solidarity with the grieving families.
On Tuesday, at least six people were killed when a boat capsized in Gandbal area of Srinagar which was ferrying several minor students, their parents and some labourers.
Several private schools in this regard have issued notifications to its students and staff—asking them to stand in solidarity with the grieving families.
Principal of the one of the private schools in Padshahibagh Srinagar in a condolence message said, “On behalf of the whole school community, I extend my sincerest sympathies for the loss of life that occurred on 16-04-2024 at Gandbal Soiteng.”
“We are all shocked and saddened that so many precious lives were lost, and we extend our sincerest condolences to the bereaved families. There is no way to prepare for the loss of a loved one. It comes like a sudden and unexpected blow. We pray for the patience and strength of the bereaved families as they grieve for their loved ones,” it reads.
The condolence message of the school further reads, “As a community, we are equally sharing their grief and sorrows and will continue to support each other at all times. In this regards, the school will be closed for a two-day period, that is Thursday and Friday,” it reads.
Similarly, management of another private school in a condolence message said, “We are deeply saddened about the recent tragic incident that happened in the nearby area Gandbal Soitang on 16/04/24. We have lost many precious lives, our hearts ache for the immeasurable loss their families are enduring, and we extend our most sincere condolences to their families during this difficult time.”
“The loss of their lives has left an indelible mark on all of us. Regarding this matter, the school will remain closed for two days i.e Thursday and Friday,” it reads.
