Srinagar, May 1: Apni Party’s Senior Vice President Ghulam Hassan Mir, on Wednesday, said that his party does not believe in the politics of confrontation that harms the interests of the people; instead, it believes in the politics of cooperation and conciliation for the larger interests of the people.
He was speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a party event in Khag area of central Kashmir’s Budgam district today.
Replying to a question, Mir said, “We will never indulge in any confrontation with the central government, regardless of which party is in charge there, because we understand that the issues and problems that the people of Jammu and Kashmir are grappling with can only be solved with the help of the central government. We do not believe in the politics of confrontation; rather, we believe in the politics of cooperation and conciliation for the larger good of our people.”
He added, “After August 5, 2019, it was only through our approach of cooperation and conciliation that we succeeded in convincing the leadership in Delhi to issue a statement from the PMO assuring that only the people of Jammu and Kashmir would have the right to jobs and agricultural land in the region.”
Earlier, speaking at the party event Ghulam Hassan Mir took a dig at the traditional parties and said, “The traditional parties, especially those belonging to political families have always prioritized their own interests, instead of the interests of people. Take an example of the PAGD. These parties established this alliance claiming that they will get abrogated article 370 back through this alliance. In fact, these parties had established this so-called alliance only to befool people and take political and electoral advantages from it. They misled people and sought votes in the name of PAGD in ULB and panchayat elections. Now, four years down the line, they themselves dissolved this so-called alliance again for their political and electoral interests.”
He went on to say, “NC has been at the helm of affairs in Jammu and Kashmir for most of the past 75 years, while the Congress party remained in government at the centre during the same period. The NC allowed the gradual erosion of Article 370 by the congress over the years. Its leaders forged alliances with congress multiple times, but always for personal and family interests. They entered into agreements such as the Indira-Abdullah accord and the Rajiv-Farooq accord, and so on. If they had been sincere, they would have attempted to make Article 370 a permanent feature of the constitution. They were never sincere to this place or its people; rather, they were always concerned about their own interests. Moreover, their manipulation of the electoral process in 1987 contributed to the escalation of violence in the region.”
He appealed to people to reject these traditional and family parties by the power of their vote in the parliamentary elections.
Besides Ghulam Hassan Mir, the prominent party leaders who were present on the occasion included the party’s State Secretary, Chief Spokesperson, and District President Budgam Muntazir Mohiuddin, Vice President Kashmir Province Muzaffar Rizvi, District President Kupwara Raja Manzoor, Senior Leaders Dawood Lodhi, Senior Leader Waseem Dar, and others.
