Anantnag, May 25: In almost all previous elections Shool Wanpora area in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district never budged and has continued the legacy of voting.
According to the locals, this time they are voting to elect their representative at the centre for better governance.
The locals of the area said that it has witnessed killing of more than four militants since the early 1990s. “Despite of that we never gave up or stayed back but continued to vote which we think is our right.”
One of the locals, Mohammad Yousuf said that the area has always been in favor of voting.
“Despite being a hotbed of militancy, the area has never remained behind in voting,” he said.
Yousuf said, “From early 1990s, two militants have been killed and four others have surrendered. For better governance, we will continue to vote like in almost all previous elections.”
Another local, Abdul Rashid said that the village has no representative to speak on various issues faced by the locals. “We are voting to elect our own representative in the centre.”
He said that the villagers are continuing the legacy of voting. “We believe that wasting a vote means giving a chance to opponents to rise stronger.” (KNO)
