Pulwama, Jun 1: The residents of Saimoh area of Tral sub division in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district here have demanded a bridge over Watal Ara Nallah to get connected with Hardumir Tral.
The residents of Saimoh area and its adjoining areas said that they are facing a lot of problems in absence of a bridge between Saimoh and Hardumir.
They said that elderly people, women and school going children are facing tremendous hardships in absence of the bridge, adding that the makeshift bridge over the Nallah can prove fatal anytime.
Abbas Ahmad, a local resident, said that they are facing a lot of problems in the absence of bridge, especially in case of emergency.
He said the construction work on the bridge was started around 25 years ago, however, after construction of bases on both sides; the work was put on halt.
Since last 25 years, every authority has been contacted but nothing has been done on ground, he said.
“Government has spent lakhs on different works everywhere but have failed in constructing concrete bridge here,” Imtiyaz Ahmad, another local, said.
He said that a makeshift bridge has been constructed but it is very risky to cross the nallah and it gets damaged every year.
Locals said that they have knocked on the doors of every government authority to get their issue redressed but to no avail.
“We have high hopes on Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Deputy Commissioner (DC) Pulwama that they will look into it and direct concerned authorities to restart the work on bridge and complete it,” the locals said and urged the authorities to look into the matter and restart the work on the construction of the bridge at an earliest so that locals could heave a sigh of relief.
