The fresh rainfall has once again pushed the commuters as well as the pedestrians to the wall as the potholed roads filled with the muddy rain water caused huge inconvenience to them in Srinagar and elsewhere. Several roads in Srinagar including the Old City areas have developed potholes, thereby affecting vehicular movement on a regular basis, but the fresh rainfall has worsened the situation for the people, who are finding it difficult to traverse through these roads, where the muddy water accumulated after the fresh light rainfall. Such a situation is not only leading to the slowdown of vehicular movement but also hampers the pedestrian movement as well, thereby pushing the common masses to the wall. The situation is being witnessed at a time when the huge rush of tourists is being witnessed in Srinagar, who visit different places including the Old City areas on a regular basis. With the government taking measures to redesign or re-develop several areas of Srinagar, the concerned authorities need to be pressed at this juncture to ensure that the roads are at least macadamized at an earliest so that the commuters could heave a sigh of relief. The Roads and Building department should launch a massive macadamization process at this juncture and repair all the roads across Srinagar in order to ensure smooth vehicular and pedestrian movement on these surfaces. The time has come when the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) should also press its men and machinery to macadamize and repair the roads across Srinagar so that the commuters as well as the pedestrians could heave a sigh of relief.
