Srinagar, Jun 21: The light rains lashed Kashmir parts since Friday morning, bringing down the mercury here with the weatherman predicting more light rains till tomorrow.
Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir and other parts of the Valley received fresh rainfall today intermittently.
The fresh rains have brought the mercury down across Kashmir.
So far, Jammu and Kashmir has recorded a deficient rainfall till June 20.
There is a deficient rainfall of 45 per cent in J&K from June 01 to June 20, the data reveals, adding that Kupwara is the only station where a normal rainfall of 35.2 degree Celsius was recorded during the period.
However, Anantnag, Budgam, Bandipora, Baramulla, Kulgam, Pulwama, Shopian and Srinagar have recorded deficient rainfall during the period.
Srinagar and Pulwama have recorded the highest deficient rainfall of 50 per cent and 55 per cent respectively, the data reveals.
It adds that Jammu, Kathua, Poonch and Samba have recorded the large deficient rainfall during the period.
While the rains lashed most parts of the Valley, the temperature plummeted in Kashmir areas with Srinagar recording a maximum temperature of 19.5 degree Celsius.
The other stations have also recorded a fall in the day temperature as Qazigund, Kupwara, Kokernag recorded a maximum temperature of 18.4 degree Celsius, 19.6 degree Celsius and 17.2 degree Celsius respectively.
According to the Director Meteorological department, Dr Mukhtar Ahmad, there is a possibility of light rains, thunder at isolated places for the next two days while from June 24 to June 28, the weather is expected to remain generally dry with possibility of light rain, thunder at isolated places cannot be ruled out.
Moreover, in its advisory, the MeT has stated that the heat wave is expected in Jammu from June 22.
