Srinagar, Jul 27: A youth was on Tuesday morning shot dead by the unknown gunmen in Bulbul Lanker area of Nawa Kadal in Srinagar.
According to reports, a youth identified as Meeran Ali was fired upon by the unknown gunmen here, leaving him in a pool of blood.
Official sources said that Ali was immediately rushed to the hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.
They said after completing legal formalities, the body was handed over to the family for the last rites.
Meanwhile, hundreds of people attended the funeral prayers of the slain youth at Bulbul Lanker Park.
Witnesses said that the youth in large numbers participated in the last rites of Meeran Ali at Bulbul Lanker park here. Meanwhile, a police spokesman said that at about 11:30 am Srinagar Police received information about an incident at Nawakadal area of Srinagar where militants had fired at a civilian. “Senior police officers reached the spot. Preliminary investigation has revealed that militants had fired at a civilian identified as Mehran Ali Sheikh son of Shabir Ahmad resident of Bulbul Lanker Nawakadal, outside his home. In this incident, he had sustained grievous bullet injuries and was shifted to hospital for the treatment, where he succumbed to his injuries,” the police spokesman in a statement, said.
He said that police has registered a case in this regard under relevant sections of law. Investigation is in progress and officers continue to work to establish the circumstances which lead to this incident. “Area has been cordoned off and search in the area is going on,” the police spokesman said.
