Safety of school-going kids must

In recent times, the issue of student safety has taken center stage, particularly concerning the use of two-wheelers by minors in Kashmir. This concern has prompted authorities to implement a ban on school-going students riding two-wheelers in Kupwara district. The primary rationale behind this ban lies in the alarming number of accidents involving young riders. Kashmir has witnessed tragic incidents where students, often without sufficient driving experience or understanding of road safety rules, have been involved in accidents leading to injuries and even fatalities. Such incidents highlight the need for stringent measures to protect the young citizens. Education plays a pivotal role in this scenario. School-goers are in a critical phase of their lives where they are shaping their future. It is imperative that they receive uninterrupted access to education without the risk posed by two-wheeler accidents. By prohibiting their use of two-wheelers, authorities are not only prioritizing safety but also ensuring that educational pursuits remain undeterred. Moreover, the ban serves to uphold existing laws and regulations pertaining to road safety. These laws are in place to safeguard everyone on the roads, irrespective of age or experience. Enforcing such regulations early in life instills a sense of responsibility and respect for law among young citizens, which is crucial for fostering a culture of compliance and safety. At this juncture, the administrations in all the other districts should take a cue and announce the ban in the areas falling under their jurisdiction so that the safety of minor school-going children is ensured. Besides, a proper check on the routes should be ensured by the men in blue so that any violation in this regard won’t go unchecked and necessary action in this regard is initiated.
